Domestic Violence As A Cause Of Divorce

by Author on June 12, 2010

It’s a sad fact that more than 50% of all marriages nowadays end in divorce  . It’s really nothing new, this statistic has been steadily rising over the past few hundred years  .

It wasn’t that long ago that both women and men could almost always find a way to reconcile their differences and learn to stay together no matter what the causes of divorce may have been  .

It’s really hard to say what causes divorce and it’s definitely a personal matter for each couple  .

Divorce has become quite commonplace and it’s really nothing to be ashamed of, we just have to make sure it is for the right reasons  .

Irreconcilable Differences

One common cause of divorce is what is officially referred to as irreconcilable differences . The reason this particular cause is so common is because it really covers alot of ground, while at the same time leaving the actual reasons wide open  . Basically it just means that the couple really don’t want to be together because they simply have little in common any more  .

Other times, it refers to a disagreement on a fundamental issue, such as whether or not to have children . It could just mean that the couple argues too much . Irreconcilable differences is a controversial term when it comes to being a cause of divorce, some would say it makes getting divorce to easy, it’s up to the couple to make sure that the term is not abused and used lightly  .

Domestic Violence as a Cause of Divorce

A major cause of divorce, domestic violence, that has only in the past fifty years risen to the surface . Domestic violence is something that few people used to talk about because it was considered shameful .

Women have a lot more support nowadays and feel more confident coming forward and claiming domestic violence as a cause of divorce, and that’s a very positive step in the right direction  .

Cheater, Cheater, Pumpkin Eater

Cheating, or having an affair, is yet another major cause of divorce  . Some couples are able to get past this with the help of counseling, but for the majority of married couples, this is just too much to handle.  . Cheating is viewed as being the ultimate betrayal – something that many marriages just can’t take .

For Better Or For Worse

Regardless of what the causes of a divorce are, the most important thing of all is that the divorce accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish . For some couples that just can’t bear to be in the same room as the person they are married to, divorce becomes the solution and levels the playing field, sometimes even bringing them closer together again  .

There are also those that just want the divorce so badly, they never want to see the other person again  . But if such tensions must persist, it is better that they do so outside of a marriage rather than within one .
